We know that healthy lifestyles are achieved through nurturing mind, body and spirit. Health, well-being and fitness at the Y is more than just working out. In addition to our group exercise classes and facilities, we provide educational programs to promote healthier decisions and offer a variety of programs that support physical, intellectual and spiritual strength. Summer

Sports & Conditioning Program

Sports & Conditioning Training is a great way for teens to use a simple exercises and equipment, combined with their own body weight to take their sports performance to the next level. Teens build power, endurance, core stability, speed, agility and one heck of a sweat.

Adult Aquatics

Adult Aquatics at the Y provides additional aquatic training for adults in the following areas:

  • White Caps (swimming for distance and time)
  • Triathlon Training
  • Adult Swim Lessons (private or group)
  • Lifeguard Training & Water Safety Classes

Weight Loss

Weight loss classes at the Y are for folks looking to lose weight or just get in better shape. Class meets 2 times a week for cardio and weight training activities. Nutrition and exercise goals are established, and a dose of motivation is also included!

Weight Lifting and Toning

Increase muscle tone and strength with guided instruction using the select rise weight machines, resistance cords, stability balls and medicine balls. This class is for those new to strength training, or want more instruction.

At the Y, our nationally-certified Personal Trainers can assist you in reaching your fitness and weight loss goals through one-on-one or group settings. The Alexandria Area YMCA continues the Turkey Day 5K on Thanksgiving Day morning. This event is open to both YMCA members and non-members.

Healthy Kids Day is an event that reminds parents that health and well-being are vital to ensuring that children reach their full potential, and that being active can be as simple as making a play date with their kids. Helping families incorporate healthier habits in the home has never been more critical.

Alexandria Area YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day™, which takes place in the Spring at the Alexandria Area YMCA, helps make physical activity easy and accessible. At Healthy Kids Day, the nation’s largest health day for kids, the Y is encouraging families to make play dates every day as a simple way to become healthier, more active and connected.
