YMCA Child Care, Lead Preschool Teacher

Teachers are everyday heroes! If you are looking for a rewarding career that brightens the lives of many young children, come join our team!

This position operates as part of the YMCA Child Care Center at Knute Nelson site working in the Preschool classroom. Lead teachers will work in conjunction with child care management staff to provide a fun, interactive learning environment for all children.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Develop, implement and evaluate weekly lesson plans following creative curriculum, enhancing learning through art, music, math, science and literature.
  • Evaluates and maintains records on all children's progress, using formal and informal assessment tools.
  • Post daily activity schedules in the classroom.
  • Effectively communicate with parents or guardians regarding child's development through notes, e-mails and scheduled conferences. Provides an open line of communication between parents and Y staff.
  • Supervise and engage with assigned groups of children, during both indoor and outdoor activities.
  • Supervise and assign tasks to assistant teachers and aides in your classroom.
  • Takes responsibility for upkeep of all educational equipment and materials.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Be committed to the YMCA mission and goals of the Early Childhood Center.
  • Post-secondary education required, preferably in early childhood, or CDA credential.
  • Experience in early childhood settings preferred.

Summer Day Camp Counselor

This is the perfect summer job for high school and college students!

Summer Day Camp counselors provide direct supervision of a group of children in a seasonal day camp; create positive, nurturing relationships with children, while building cooperative relationships with parents/caregivers; promote and supports the potential of all youth in programs; and facilitate peer-to-peer connections as part of the overall camp experience.

This is a seasonal position operating as part of the Youth & Family Department at the Alexandria Area YMCA, supporting the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.

Start Date: Monday, June 7th - End Date: Friday, September 3th

Seasonal full-time and part-time positions are available. This position has the opportunity to continue part-time employment with our school's out day camp program, which is held on the days school is not in session throughout the school year.
