We are looking for an energetic and responsible individual who has a passion for working with children. Child Watch is an area for youth members ages 6 weeks to 7 years old to attend while parents and families take a class or grab a workout. Background or experience in child care, education, or child services of any kind are beneficial.
This is a part-time position. We are currently seeking applicants to work one or two mornings per week. Applicants must have availability form 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday-Saturday.
Your Role as a Child Watch Aide
Child Watch Aides are responsible for assisting in planning, developing, and implementing activities in the Child Watch program. Aides guide the development of children, ensuring a safe, enriching, and healthy environment. Child watch services are available for children 6 weeks to 7 years old. Child Watch Aides:
- Must be capable of directing the daily administrative, program-related, and supervisory responsibilities of the Child Watch program.
- Meet and greet all staff, members and program participants every day with a smile and a hello.
- Facilitate a program environment that invites exploration, promotes positive play, and welcomes children.
- Assist with the day-to-day operations of the Child Watch program, meeting all applicable state regulations (if any) and Alexandria Area YMCA policies.
- Help to maintain appropriate staff-to-child ratios, as specified by the Alexandira Area YMCA, at all times.
- Provide careful, attentive supervision, as be alert at all times.
- Manage the program resources responsibly, and monitor toys and equipment for safety.
- Promote a team concept through positive approach to supervision, communication, and interactions with others. Maintain ongoing communication with supervisor.
- Help to facilitate a positive program environment that develops self-control in children through the use of positive guidance techniques. Effectively manage discipline and accident incidents.
- Uphold the association's child protection policies, child abuse and neglect guidelines, and proper reporting procedures at all times. Report any risk management issues to the supervisor.
- Communicate regularly with program parents. Attend parent/family events and staff meetings as designated by supervisor
- Demonstrate appropriate decision-making abilities.
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of YMCA mission, values, purpose, and goals. Strives for the highest standards of program excellence.
- Upholds and exemplifies the YMCA's principles of character development, customer services, and programs that build strong kids, strong families, and strong communities.
- Performs all other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
- Follows the department dress code, and refrains from using cell phone during work.
Qualifications
- Required certifications (within 60 days): CPR, First Aid, AED, Blood Borne Pathogens
- Child Abuse Prevention and Reporting, Abusive Head Trauma, and SUID completion within 90 days
- Must be at least 15 years old
- Must possess and demonstrate the ability to engage in all activities associated with the daily care, activities, and routines of children, including but not limited to: interacting with children at floor level, physical education activities such as running, jumping, etc., lifting children and equipment, and participating in outdoor activities,
- Must possess oral, auditory and written communication skills appropriate for interacting with both children and adults.
- Must be capable of directing the daily administrative, program-related, and supervisory responsibilities of a Child Watch program.
