ENSURING WATER SAFETY
Earn your lifeguard certification at the Alexandria Area YMCA
Successful completion of the course will provide participants with certification as a Red Cross lifeguard. The blended learning format combines approximately 7 hours of online learning with in-person skills sessions.
Upcoming Session: May 2nd -May 4th
What you will learn:
- Knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize, and respond to aquatic emergencies.
- How to help others stay safe in, on, and around the water.
- How to deliver critical care, like CPR, first aid, and AED administration
Course Requirements:
- Participants must be at least 15 years of age.
- Participants must complete a mandatory swimming test at the Alexandria Area YMCA. Available dates include:
- Wednesday, April 23 at 7 p.m. - 8 p.m.
- Saturday, April 26 at 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
- Participants are required to wear a swimsuit and bring a towel to class
- Participants must complete all online training, attend all course sessions, demonstrate competency in all required skills and scenarios, and pass the final written and water exams to receive their certification.

- Friday, May 2 | 4 pm - 8:30 pm
Saturday, May 3 | 8 am - 8 pm
Sunday, May 4 | 8 am - 8 pm
