We are looking for role models like you to join our team as a summer Day Camp Counselor!
Day Camp Counselors are responsible for leading and implementing programs and experiences for children in a small group setting. They provide direct supervision of a group of children; create positive, nurturing relationships with children, while building cooperative relationships with parents/caregivers; promote and support the potential of all youth in programs; and facilitate peer-to-peer connections as part of the overall camp experience.
Counselors are responsible for the care of youth in camp programs as well as leading activities for the youth. Activities range from arts, STEM, sports/gym games, outdoors, and more.
Seasonal full-time and part-time positions are available. Summer Camp will begin on June 3 and will end August 30. Accommodations can be made for college students returning to school at the end of August. Day Camp Counselors have the opportunity to continue part-time employment in our School's Out Day Camp program, which is held on the days school is not in session throughout the school year.
Essential Functions
1. Supervises and interacts with a group of children.
2. Implements program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA values.
3. Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness.
4. Attends staff meetings and trainings.
5. Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
6. Cultivates positive relationships and maintains effective communication with parents, children and other staff.
7. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
8. Performs other duties as assigned by the Day Camp Leads and Day Camp Coordinator.
Qualifications
1. High school graduate or equivalent experience; one year or more of college preferred.
2. Previous experience preferred working with children in a large group setting.
3. Experience preferred in one or more of the following areas: outdoor living, camping, songs/music, skits, sports, aquatics, recreational games, etc.
4. At least 16 years of age.
5. CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire date.
6. Previous experience with diverse populations preferred.
