Meet Our Infant Teachers

At the Alexandria Area YMCA, we know that peace of mind starts with the people caring for your child. Our teachers aren't just staff; they are qualified, caring, and attentive caregivers who foster secure bonds by providing nurturing, loving interactions that help babies feel safe and supported. We know that every infant is a unique individual and our dedicated caregivers are committed to tailoring their approach to meet the needs of each infant in our care.

Every team member—from Lead Teachers to Aides—undergoes a rigorous background study and comprehensive training program before ever stepping into the classroom. This ensures your child is always in the most capable hands.

Our staff is fully trained in:
  • Safety First: CPR/First Aid, Emergency Preparedness, and Risk Reduction Plans.
  • Specialized Health: Sudden Unexpected Infant Death (SUID) and Abusive Head Trauma prevention.
  • Child Advocacy: Mandated Reporting, Child Development, and Positive Behavior Guidance.
  • Constant Supervision: We maintain "sight and sound" contact at all times, whether in the classroom, the gym, or the pool.

OUR CHILD CARE LOCATIONS

Our infant classrooms offer a warm, encouraging, and stimulating environment that fosters every aspect of your child’s growth and development.

To better serve our community, the YMCA offers 4-Star Parent Aware-rated infant programming—the highest rating available—at two convenient locations within Alexandria.

Each site provides the same high standards of care, curriculum, and safety you expect, ensuring your child has a nurturing environment to learn and grow, regardless of which location you choose.

At our Nelson Care Center, we partner with the certified cooks in the Nelson Care Center kitchen. These meals are made fresh in their kitchen and brought to classrooms, where staff serve them to the children.
